Weight: To be eligible for transmitter affixation a bat must weigh a minimum of 6.0 grams. This rule was amended after bat #2 to allow bats between 5.5 and 6.0 grams to be tracked using only our lowest weight transmitters. We have both Hollowhill and another brand of transmitters, the others are lighter, but in dry run tests were acting unpredictable/unreliable. Unfortunately we only have three Hollowhill transmitters.

Bats 205 and 206 were both technically eligible for transmitters, but the very borderline weight of 205, coupled with our current lack of faith in the lighter transmitters caused us to not affix a transmitter to that bat. 206 was caught on a night where we were releasing bats inside the tunnel (pouring rain followed by sleet and snow) and it was suffering from a eye infection so we did not glue a transmitter to it. We will probably see it again when it emerges and we can make a judgment call as to the condition of it's eye.

Fur samples are being taken for lead contaminant analysis.

Comments:

201PGC- Too light for transmitter.

202PGC- Way too light for transmitter, dorsal fur wet upon removal from trap. Fur sample taken.

203PGC- Too light for transmitter. Fur sample taken. Released inside tunnel.

204PGC- Good weight, transmitter affixed. Fed mealworms. Bat weighed 6.6 grams after feeding. Fur sample taken.

205PGC- Fed mealworms. Fur sample taken.

206PGC- Borderline weight, eye infection/area around eye swollen. Released into tunnel. Fed mealworms. Fur sample taken.
